1 cup butter, softened
1 cup sugar
1 cup molasses
2 Tablespoons ground ginger
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
5 cups all-purpose flour, divided


  1. Blend together butter, sugar and molasses; stir in ginger

  2. In large bowl, combine baking soda, salt and one cup flour; add to butter mixture

  3. Stir in remaining flour a ¼ cup at a time

  4. knead the mixture by hand when it gets to hard to stir

  5. knead until well blended

  6. Roll out onto a lightly floured surface untiliut ¼ inch thick

  7. Cut out desired shapes and place on parchment paper-lined baking sheets

  8. Bake at 350°F for 8 ro 10 minutes

  9. Allow to cool and decorate as desired
